curious about the u.s. census?

how do i count my household? 

You must count everyone who currently lives in your physical residence, including all dependents, roommates, extended family, and others who frequently sleep on the property. 

are my children my dependents?

Yes. All minors under the age of 18 are considered dependents of parents. 

how do i count if i live in a rental property? 

You have to complete the Census regardless of if you own or rent your current property. You will receive a form in the mail, or you can complete it via online at the Census Bureau website. 

am i a female head-of-household? 

Female heads-of-households are women with/without children aged 0-18, and are the primary income providers for their household. 

how do i count if i am not a legal citizen?

The Census will not ask you questions on your citizenship status. The Census Bureau will not report anyone who is not a legal resident of the United States, and all information collected by the Census is protected under the U.S. Constitution.

What if i choose not to participate in the census? 

According to Title 13 and Title 18 regarding Census laws, any person that purposely chooses not to participate in the U.S. Census will be fined $100,000 by the Census Bureau. It is your Constitutional right to participate in the Census. Your data is used for the betterment of your local community. 

WHen do I complete the census?

Census day is April 1, 2020.
